Traverse City is a culinary destination, and its agricultural and viticultural heritage lies front and center of the area’s tastes. Farm-to-table isn’t just a phrase here; it’s the toast of the town.

And for those travelers who come north for the cuisine, there are several lodging options with on-site dining – here’s what you can find on the menu this spring:

Bistro Polaris

Bistro Polaris at Black Star Farms

You can’t bring the table much closer to the farm than at Black Star Farms in Suttons Bay. While the atmosphere is casual at on-site Bistro Polaris, their dedication to using local ingredients is not. This spring, enjoy their Sunday Brunch from 10 am until 2 pm to find dishes such as their ‘Frittata con Asparagi’, which features Pristine Acres farm eggs with asparagus, nearby Leelanau Cheese Co. raclette, and Parmesan. Don’t miss out on offerings from the specialty wood-fired pizza oven, which warms the bar area while cooking up Neopolitan delights.

Artfully arranged cheeseboard at Artisan restaurant, featuring a selection of cheeses, cured meats, fresh fruit, and accompaniments.

The Artisan at the Delamar

The Delamar and its upscale dining option, the Artisan, partner with local farmers to bring the area’s agricultural heritage to life in the downtown area. This is showcased perfectly by their mushroom bisque made with shiitake, oyster, and lion’s mane Grand Traverse Mushrooms. Beyond fortifying the soup, mushrooms are roasted for garnish. Visiting in the summer? Be sure to order the Heirloom Tomato and Stone Fruit, which always uses all-local ingredients.

Wine and Food at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa

Aerie Restaurant at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa

Zoom up to the top floor of the landmark tower of the Grand Traverse Resort, and you’ll find one of the widest views in town. While enjoying the sunset at the top-floor Aerie Restaurant, sip local on a great selection of the area’s best viticultural finds. You’ll see signature area selections of Cabernet Franc, Riesling, and Pinot Noir Rosé on the wine list, as well as local bubbly to celebrate your special occasions. Afterwards, head down to their Gallery of Shops to treasure hunt for great local products such as Grand Traverse Hot Sauce Company spicy condiments or Hilbert’s Honey Co. sweetness.

From the area’s tallest tower to farm stays, you’ll always find something local in Traverse City.
