Live Music in Traverse City
Looking for the best Traverse City live music and concerts? From internationally known performers to local musicians playing intimate stages, the region offers a vibrant mix of venues and events throughout the year.
Music lovers will find everything from orchestral performances and touring acts to casual live sets at pubs and outdoor venues. Whether you’re planning a trip around a major performance or simply hoping to catch a show while you’re in town, Traverse City makes it easy to build a night of music into your itinerary.
Top Traverse City Live Music Venues
One of the most recognized performance destinations in Northern Michigan is Interlochen Center for the Arts. Its acclaimed summer concert series brings world-class performers to the open-air Kresge Auditorium, where audiences experience everything from symphony orchestras and jazz ensembles to major touring artists under the pines.
Downtown Traverse City also offers memorable stages. The historic City Opera House, hosts touring musicians, singer-songwriters, and cultural performances in an elegant theater setting. Nearby, The Alluvion provides a modern listening-room atmosphere where audiences can experience indie artists, jazz musicians, and experimental performers in an intimate venue.
Other popular Traverse City venues are Dennos Museum Center, Jacob’s Farm, The Grand Traverse Commons, Kilkenny’s and Encore 201.
Local Music
Traverse City may seem off the beaten path as a destination for concerts, but the reality is quite the contrary! Our small town definitely delivers some big city performances.
From sessions on The Voice to rockin' stage shows at national music festivals, area musicians are certainly making a positive name for themselves as well as our community. Our lively music scene is no longer much of a secret, thanks to the growing reputations of home-grown performers like The Accidentals, Levi Britton, and Josh Davis. Take a look at a few of them in our From the Top video music series.
Summer Outdoor Concerts
Summer is peak season for Traverse City concerts, with performances taking place outdoors across the region. The Interlochen Arts Festival draws internationally known musicians each summer, filling Kresge Auditorium with audiences for performances ranging from classical and jazz to contemporary artists. And don’t miss a stacked lineup at the National Cherry Festival where a wide range of well-known performers will hit the Pepsi Bayside Music Stage for a rockin’ good time.
Outdoor venues also come alive around town. The Little Fleet, a popular downtown gathering spot known for its food trucks, frequently hosts live music during warm summer evenings creating a casual atmosphere for enjoying music outdoors.
