Antrim, Benzie, Leelanau & Grand Traverse Counties
There’s no place like northern Michigan. Up here, you can discover the shops, restaurants, and historical sites of downtown Traverse City. Sip a glass of wine on Leelanau Peninsula. Wander a wooded trail in Antrim County. Paddle your way through Benzie to Lake Michigan’s shore. These adventures, and so many more, are just minutes away from TC.
Tucked along the coast of East Grand Traverse Bay, Antrim County is home to charming—and cool—small towns like Elk Rapids, Bellaire (home to Short’s Brewing Company), and Torch Lake. Boating is a favorite pastime during the summer, while skiing at Shanty Creek Resort keeps winter lovers busy on the slopes. Miles of trails crisscross the county, and a drive north during cherry blossom season or the peak of fall color provides stunning views. Get a taste of local art at a gallery or enjoy a summer festival while you’re in town for the full up north experience.
Southwest of downtown Traverse City is another hidden gem: Benzie County. The great outdoors reign supreme in Michigan’s smallest county, which has almost as many miles of shoreline as it does roads. Great fishing, hiking, golf, and watersports are always a stone’s throw away, and you’ll find incredible downhill skiing at one of the region’s premier resorts: Crystal Mountain. Be sure to catch a film at the Garden Theater in Frankfort, followed by drinks at Stormcloud Brewing Company or Iron Fish Distillery. And don’t miss the many fairs, farmers markets, and restaurant weeks that rotate year-round.
No matter where you go, no matter which corner you choose to explore, you’ll find yourself in a pretty great place.
