Spring. It’s the perfect time to shake off the winter cobwebs and start planning an escape to Traverse City. Visit for a weekend or plan a week-long vacation -- either way you will find a variety of activities to take part in.
March kicks off the season with St. Patrick’s Day events. Get your green on at the Leapin’ Leprechaun 5k or be a spectator at the annual parade in Downtown Traverse City.
April’s calendar has a diverse selection of happenings. Foodie events like the Chocolate Festival and Amical’s Cook Book Series are delicious ways to awaken your palate. If nature is calling, there are also plenty of guided hikes at the region’s land conservancy areas. You can even run a race on some of the trails during the Traverse City Trail Running Festival, an annual event that offers a 10k relay on Friday and a 10k, 25k and 50k race on Saturday.
May is Traverse City wine month, so our hearts turn toward wine. Bring on the new growing season during Traverse City Uncorked, our month-long celebration of grapes! Sample the wines from the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula at their annual Blossom Day event. Awaken your taste buds and try new food and wine pairings during the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail’s Spring Sip & Savor event.
If activity is what you’re craving during a spring visit, May is your month! On the national level, May is National Bike Month and, in Traverse City, that means the calendar is freshly stocked with bike races and events including Mud, Sweat and Beers at Mt. Holiday. And for the running type, May is the long-awaited month to show off your winter training at the Bayshore Marathon (last Saturday in May).
