Although there are five named trails in the undeveloped Cathead Bay area of Leelanau State Park, the system basically forms a 4-mile loop using the Lake Michigan Trail and Mud Lake Trail, with three crossover spurs in the middle. Loops as short as 1.5 miles are possible and the most popular hike is the Lake Michigan Trail combined with the Manitou Overlook cutoff and spurs to the beach and the observation deck. This loop is an easy hike of 2.2 miles.
