Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire Great Lakes curiosity, stewardship, and passion. Through shipboard and on-shore experiences public understanding and stewardship of the Great Lakes is enhanced. Sail aboard the 77’ schooner Inland Seas on Grand Traverse Bay. This ship is designed specifically for learning about the Great Lakes ecosystem. Become a scientists as you trawl for fish, collect plankton, sample the lake bottom, test the water quality, collect microplastic samples, and much more. You can also become a sailor as you raise the sails and steer the ship. Great Lakes Discovery Sails and Exploring Microplastics Sails are offered throughout the summer. Other specialty sails such as Astronomy/Meteor Shower Sails, Music Sails, or Breakfast on a Traditional Schooner are also available. More information and our summer sailing schedule can be found on our website, schoolship.org, or by calling our ticketing agency at 231.237.4010. To learn about the Great Lakes from shore, visit the Inland Seas Education Center in Suttons Bay. Interact with the learning stations about Great Lakes’ invasive species, explore the Great Lakes watershed on the giant Our Inland Seas mural, look at the live sea lamprey and other fish in the aquariums, touch zebra and quagga mussels and a crayfish in the touch tank, and gaze at the zebra mussel bike hanging from the ceiling. Admission for the Education Center is free. Hours are M – F 8:30 am – 4:30 pm all year, and summer Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm. More information about Inland Seas Education Association, its programs, and schedule can be found at Schoolship.org.
