About
WCMU Public Media and Dennos Museum Center are proud to host Indie Lens Pop-Up, presented by INDEPENDENT LENS, for a screening of “The Grocery List Show," featuring a community tasting with Chef Sam Anglin from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
“The Grocery List Show” is a five-part series that follows "Top Chef” contender Chrissy Camba to five bustling international grocery stores in America and the communities they serve. Over five episodes, special guests and food enthusiasts join Chrissy to shop for ingredients and cook a favorite family recipe, as they celebrate global food traditions over a shared meal. Featured locations and cuisines include:
- Seafood City in Chicago, a vibrant Filipino supermarket chain
- Balady Market in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, a culturally rich Middle Eastern neighborhood
- Labay Market, a beloved Caribbean grocery store located in the heart of Little Caribbean, Brooklyn
- Piccolo’s Gastronomia Italiana in Ridgefield, New Jersey, a family-run Italian grocery store that has been a community staple since 1994
- La Placita de Brooklyn, a neighborhood market serving the growing Latino community in Sunset Park, Brooklyn
Three episodes from the series will be screened during the pop-up followed by a community reception featuring food prepared by Chef Sam Anglin from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Chef Sam loves to cook and teach indigenous foods. He has taken part in Chef mentoring at various Inter Tribal Food Summits across the Nation. He has cooked and learned traditional food from Chef Sean Sherman the Sioux Chef and Chef Brian Yazzie. He takes great pride in his culture and loves to share his knowledge.
