It’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together up north! If you’ve never taken a sleigh ride before, it’s everything you see in the movies—prancing horses, falling snowflakes, and cozy blankets. Across northern Michigan, there are plenty of ways to get your sleigh on, whether it’s a romantic ride for two or an adventure for the whole family.
Ranch Rudolf | Traverse City
Ranch Rudolf is best known for its summer horseback riding and winter snowmobiling, but their sleigh rides are not to be missed! The 45-minute sleigh route will take you through the beautiful Boardman River Valley, which looks like a stunning snow globe during the winter months. Sleigh rides are $15 per person.
Fantail Farm | Benzonia
Fantail Farm offers a scenic spot in Benzie County to explore the 120-acre farm via a cozy two-seater ($50) or a sleigh big enough for 12 ($12.50 per person). There are beautiful horses to meet during your ride or afterward, and you may also get a chance to see eagles, deer, and other forest creatures!
Antler Ridge Farms | Williamsburg
The team at Antler Ridge Farms has nearly 40 years of sleigh experience! Dixie and Danny are the two Percheron Draft Horses who will take you on a gentle journey through the woods, complete with a chance to roast marshmallows at the end of your trip. You can also bring apples and carrots to feed the two reindeer on site—Prancer and Vixen—for some extra holiday fun! Sleigh rides are $15 per person.
Crystal Mountain | Thompsonville
A horse-drawn surrey ride is a fan favorite at Crystal Mountain. What’s a surrey, you ask? It’s an old-fashioned carriage, and at Crystal Mountain, it means you have a roof over your head for the journey! Glide through the snow behind a team of Belgian horses, and cap off the evening with a complimentary hot cocoa and campfire. Surrey rides are $12 per person.
Shanty Creek Resort | Bellaire
Last but not least, Shanty Creek Resort offers something a little different…dogsled rides! Kiddos can go on a 15-minute ride for just $15, while an adult or a parent and kid combo (max weight of 200lbs) can take a longer journey around Schuss Mountain for $65.
