Pinestead Reef Resort

At Pinestead Reef Resort, nothing comes between you and your beachside getaway...and Pinestead Reef Resort’s General Manager, Gary Thaxton, says there’s a very simple reason for that. “We’re the only property in the area that’s been able to build length-wise along Grand Traverse Bay. As a result, every single room directly faces the water. Every guest enjoys amazing, unobstructed views and access to the bay. You can literally walk out your door right to the beach. It’s pretty special.”

That’s not all that’s special about this place. Every room on the property is a suite, offering more of the privacy and personal space that guests prefer. “We have 46 suites,” explains Thaxton. “Guests have the option of one- or two-bedroom layouts. All the suites feature a full kitchen for added convenience. Also every suite has a walkout view of the bay.” Added amenities include a heated, indoor pool, whirlpool and sauna, game and fitness rooms, and more.

Originally built in 1964 as a nine-room motel, Pinestead Reef Resort is a modern, timeshare resort that offers weeklong getaways. It’s an experience that isn’t often found so close to Traverse City. “We’re just far enough away from downtown to enjoy some real peace and quiet,” states Thaxton. “The light levels are lower here, so there’s great stargazing at night. Since our occupancy is limited, our beach is never crowded…people can spread out more and enjoy their space.”

Located near the state park on Munson Avenue, the Pinestead Reef Resort offers easy access to the paved TART trail which is popular with runners, walkers, and cyclists. It’s also just minutes away by car to all the downtown shopping, dining, etc. that Traverse City has to offer.

“People have a lot of options when they stay here,” says Thaxton. “Especially the option of just staying put and enjoying their own private, Up North getaway.”
