It all started simply enough. A local mother of four, thinking about the community where she was raising her family, asked why there wasn’t a Pride Festival in Traverse City. Five years (and countless hours of tireless planning) later, Up North Pride Week has become one of the Midwest’s premier celebrations of the LGBTQ community. Every year in June (which is Pride Month) the festival draws a diversity of people from across the Midwest for a week of song, storytelling, special celebrations and Michigan’s largest participant-driven pride parade. With so much happening then, how do you get plugged in? Never fear. The highlights are here.
June 17th – Here:Say Storytelling
Everyone has a story to tell. And for one special evening at Workshop Brewing Company, scheduled performers share their true, LGBTQ-themed stories. You’re even invited to share yours. Storytelling begins at 7:00 (come early for eats) and runs until 9:30. A suggested $5 donation to Up North Pride can be made at the door. For additional details click here.

Laugh, cry, smile, think…all while enjoying comfy seats and affordable drinks and snacks. The State Theatre hosts an evening of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender films curated to entertain, educate and celebrate.
