This could be the year for full travel recovery in Traverse City following the pandemic according to the President of Traverse City Tourism, Trevor Tkach. Tkach made his pronouncement recently during the inaugural airing of the program “The Road Best Traveled” on radio station WTCM AM.
The new monthly program examines one of the biggest economic drivers of northern Michigan, the hospitality industry. It reviews travel trends, major upcoming events, and what is new in the region.
“My hunch is we will see consistent, strong travel this year,” Tkach said during the show. “This will be the year, I think, we will have a strong leisure demand, then we’ll also get back the group, meetings, and events business,” Tkach added there is concern about the economy and inflation, but he notes that studies show travel is a priority among Americans and they plan on hitting the road this year.
Caroline Rizzo also appeared on the show to highlight a $10.5-million renovation of the original hotel at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. The nearly completed construction project has upgraded all the rooms, elevators, and common spaces and created new hospitality suites.
