Combine the beauty of a stunning natural backdrop with a community that has a passion for an active lifestyle and it's no wonder that Traverse City is host to a generous number of races every summer!
Summer race season begins in late June with the Glen Arbor Solstice Half-Marathon, a gorgeous half marathon and 5k run/walk around Big Glen Lake and the lovely town of Glen Arbor. Then, as part of the National Cherry Festival in July, there's the Meijer Festival of Races, with a 5K run/walk, a 15K, and the 5/3 Bank Golden Mile Elite races.
It's not all for runners, either! Summer brings one of the area's major cycling events: the Cherry-Roubaix, which combines road races in the gorgeous Leelanau Peninsula countryside with a criterium course through the cobbled streets of Traverse City. Late August brings the Traverse City Triathlon (a swim in West Bay followed by a cycling race along the orchards and vineyards of the Old Mission Peninsula) and the Vineyard to Bay 25k through the vineyards and countryside of the Leelanau Peninsula to the charming town of Suttons Bay.
