Spring is a beautiful time to visit Traverse City -- and one way to enjoy it at its best is to get out and take a leisurely tour of the countryside for a bit. Whether you decide to drive a car, pedal a bicycle or ride a motorcycle, you're sure to discover one of America's most beautiful landscapes: winding country roads through flowering orchards, rolling green hills cradled by lovely blue lakes, and charming little villages.
Head out to either of the Traverse City region’s two wine trails, located on the Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas. Both peninsulas boast acre-upon-rolling acre of cherry trees that put on an amazing show of spring blossoms. Peak times vary along with Mother Nature’s whim, but May is usually the best month to take in the amazing sea of white flowers.
Explore the area's historic lighthouses, check out a few galleries and artists' studios, or just head out on the road in search of adventure. If you'd prefer to let someone else do the driving, there are many tour operators eager to help you arrange a limo tour of local wineries, a cycling excursion to the Sleeping Bear Dunes or a sailing cruise on Grand Traverse Bay.
