What’s new in Traverse City? Plenty, especially if you’re visiting the Baywatch Resort (No, you won’t see David Hasselhoff on the beach here.) The resort is the newest beachfront resort in Traverse City. While the paint is barely dry on its cool-colored walls, there’s something that feels very familiar about this place.
According to Owner-Operator, Tonya Wuerfel, there’s a good reason for that. “We wanted the resort to feel like an up north cottage,” she explains. “Many years ago, families came up here to enjoy their own cottage on the lake. It’s where they spent a few precious weeks each summer, making fond memories. We wanted to capture that essence in the resort’s design.”
Tonya and her team definitely succeeded. Step inside the resort and you immediately notice the flooring, which looks like old wood planks (but new, of course). The cool colors of the walls and accents are a breath of fresh air. All the furniture was custom made for the resort by a North Carolina furniture maker. And then there are the rooms themselves…each has one or two king-sized beds—a unique resort feature—for optimal comfort. Some rooms come with a freestyle tub and bubbler spa; perfect for end-of-day relaxing. Double king rooms are available with a private beach view balcony.
Speaking of views, their breathtaking beachfront—all 152’ of it—entices you from the minute you arrive. “You can’t miss the bay,” says Tonya. “Our huge window in the lobby provides an amazing view. Guests can’t wait to get out there and enjoy it.” With all the beach and the resort have to offer, who can blame them?
