You don’t have to be a wine aficionado to appreciate all that Chateau Chantal has to offer…but it doesn’t hurt. Founded by Bob and Nadine Begin and managed by their daughter, Marie-Chantal, this signature winery and bed and breakfast on Old Mission Peninsula has been drawing rave reviews from guests since it first opened its doors in 1993. Nestled on a 65-acre estate, the property includes a French style, 11-bedroom bed and breakfast that provides a getaway as unique as the origins of Chateau Chantal itself.
“My parents are not your typical vintners or innkeepers,” explains Marie-Chantal. “After growing up on a farm in Quebec, my father became a Catholic priest. He served at parishes in the Detroit area. My mother was a Catholic nun, also in the Detroit area. Both lived lives in service to others. So, when they decided to open up this place, they did so with the intention of welcoming and serving others.”
Chateau Chantal is certainly welcoming. Bob still lives on the property, just above the tasting rooms.
The rooms themselves are every bit as inviting too. Designed in the new French Chateau style, they’re named after French Impressionist artists. The rooms, which are mostly master suites, have been updated with a rich color palette, more chandeliers, and artwork. Guests have breathtaking views of the vineyard or bay, depending on the room’s location. In the morning, guests can enjoy a private tour of the winery. “We tend to tailor our focus to couples wanting a romantic getaway,” explains Marie-Chantal. “We’ve considered every detail in creating a peaceful atmosphere, where you can truly immerse yourself in the experience.”
In addition to its popular bed and breakfast, Chateau Chantal also offers cooking classes, wine-pairing dinners, a wine boot camp, and more.
