Things to Do with Kids in Traverse City

They don’t call Traverse City a four-season playground for nothing! Suggestions for things to do with kids each season are highlighted below and additional information is in our Kids' Guide

Summer Activities

In summer, the sugar sand beaches make for ideal sandcastle building, and the crystal clear waters of Grand Traverse Bay and the area’s many inland lakes are perfect for water sports including kayaking and canoeing

Fall Activities

Colorful pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and corn mazes are quintessential for family fun in the fall. And when you can bite into a fresh caramel apple, the memory just gets a whole lot better!

Winter Activities

When winter arrives, and the snow starts to fly, the fun doesn’t end in Traverse City. In fact, kids + snow naturally ramps up the fun factor. Race down the hills on skis, snowboards, or tubes, or slow things down a bit on cross country skis or snowshoes. After working up an appetite on the slopes, be sure to warm up with a great meal at one of our many kid-friendly restaurants

Spring Activities

In spring, the cherry blossoms appear, and Petoskey stones begin to wash up on the shores of Lake Michigan. Both are delightful surprises for kids and adults alike. Looking for a short hike or a day of fishing? Kid's Creek Park is perfect for a little outdoor recreation. And when the rain showers persist, there’s always an indoor pool to splash around in, a museum to expand your knowledge at, or a movie to watch at a local theater.
