With its cool weather and beautiful scenery, fall in Traverse City brings runners and bikers out to enjoy themselves.
The fun begins in September with the King of the Mountain obstacle race -- a five-mile course over hilly terrain at the Mt. Holiday ski area. In October, there's the Sleeping Bear Marathon -- a scenic marathon and half-marathon in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore -- and in November, there's the Ice Man Cometh Challenge, taking place on the challenging Vasa Nordic ski trail.
And perhaps the strangest race of the year takes place just before Halloween. It's the Zombie Run a Traverse City favorite since its creation in 2009 where almost all the runners dress as ghoulishly as possible.
