    Samantha Brown’s PBS Travel Show

    Shines On Traverse City

Traverse City Tourism hosts a free public premiere at the City Opera House

For 25 years, Samantha Brown has crossed the world hosting a popular travel television program. This year, her “Places to Love” will feature Traverse City to a nationwide audience. A free Traverse City premiere of Samantha Brown’s Places to Love (PBS) will be shown on Tuesday, February 18th, at the City Opera House.

“Samantha has a charm that captivates her audience,” said Traverse City Tourism President Trevor Tkach (tah-KACH.) “We witnessed that first-hand while she explored our region and encountered fans. Her personality, curiosity, and enthusiasm shine a new light on some of Traverse City’s most popular attractions.”

The program will have its first local airing on WCMU-TV on Saturday, February 22, at 10:30 am. The program is expected to run nationwide on most Public Television stations for three years or more.

Samantha captured first-hand experiences like climbing up the steep incline of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and looking out over the crystal blue water of Lake Michigan. She savored local flavors of cherry products from Cherry Republic and award-winning cheese from Leelanau Cheese. Her immersion in the local agriculture continued with wine tasting at Bonobo Winery on Old Mission Peninsula.  Samantha even harvested vegetables used on the menu at Farm Club. She got a historical perspective by talking to an Indigenous elder aboard the tall ship Wind Dancer. Samantha uncovered the backstory of one of the largest historical reconstruction projects in the country at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Samantha was clearly impressed with the region following her visit. “With exceptional natural beauty on land and on the water, a thriving food and wine scene, and creative people, Traverse City offers what I consider to be THE perfect experience for the traveler: as both an enthusiastic visitor and a welcomed part of the community,” Samantha Brown concluded.

The Traverse City premiere event will include conversations with some participants and an interview with Samantha. The program will begin at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The event is free, and a cash bar featuring local beer and wine will be available.
