About
An ofrenda is a beautifully significant altar that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. Traditionally observed during Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), this heartfelt practice combines elements of indigenous Mexican culture with Catholic influences. It serves as a way to welcome spirits back to the world of the living, celebrating their lives and ensuring they are never forgotten.
At our public ofrenda, open from October 1 to November 1, we invite everyone to participate in this meaningful tradition. You are encouraged to bring images of your loved ones or items that they cherished—perhaps a favorite treat, a small trinket, or any personal memento. While we will do our utmost to protect these items, please feel free to leave them at your own discretion. All personal belongings will be safely returned at the end of the month, and you can pick them up at any time.
The designated altar, thoughtfully crafted by our friend Amy Jo, has been made specifically for Blessed Be’s community, embodying the spirit of connection and remembrance. Guests are also invited to fill out a sugar skull paper, writing the name of a loved one along with a heartfelt message—a beautiful way to keep their memory alive.
Throughout this period, we will light candles for those we honor, and a candle will burn continuously from October 1 to November 1, encompassing All Hallows' Eve. Death is the only certainty in life, and through this celebration, we embrace it, reflecting on the lives of our loved ones with love and gratitude. This ofrenda is not just a tribute; it’s a communal embrace of memory, connection, and the enduring spirit of those we cherish. Your presence and contributions are invaluable to this celebration of life and remembrance.
