Leelanau County artist Dana Falconberry exhibits Native Plants, a group of painted and stitched canvases, in the Glen Arbor Arts Center Lobby Gallery.

Falconberry — a musician, printmaker, painter and more — has been, in the last few years, creating textile works that combine hand-painted imagery with machine chain stitch embroidery. The stitchery is done with an industrial machine — a machine that is more often used in the service of commercial fashion to create densely stitched surfaces and imagery, than it is used in studio art applications. In her GAAC’s Lobby Gallery exhibit, Falconberry uses this hybrid method of creation to continue her exploration and interpretation of native plants local to Northern Michigan.
