About
Multi-platinum guitarist Kenny Olson has performed at the Super Bowl, Woodstock ‘99 and around the globe with iconic bands including Kid Rock, Aerosmith and Metallica. But the Detroit native and 1986 Traverse City High School graduate considers northern Michigan a “magical, sacred place” – and his desire to support the region remains as strong as his musical passion.
Golf slots are still available for the tournament at one of northern Michigan’s oldest and most scenic courses, which was founded by Olson’s grandfather and owned by his family until 2021. The tournament includes a 1 p.m. 18-hole scramble followed by the 7 p.m. outdoor concert.
Proceeds go to the Hallie’s Hearts Endowment at the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, supporting women in northern Michigan impacted by ovarian cancer. The charity event honors Olson’s late cousin, Hallie Wastell, who died from the disease at age 44 in 2016.
“Music is intended to unite and inspire, and that’s always my aim when I return to this magical, sacred place each year,” Olson says. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my music and raise funds for a great cause, in memory of a courageous and spirited woman.”
Olson is known for fusing a soulful and hard-hitting rock sound with blues and funk. He promises a show with “a little bit for everybody” in the audience. He will be joined onstage by keyboardist/singer Jimmy Olson (his cousin and Hallie’s brother), and special guest musicians.
