  • About

About 60 documented shipwrecks from earlier centuries rest in Lake Michigan offshore near Glen Haven, but thanks to the efforts of the Life Saving Station built there in 1901 and active for many decades thereafter, many sailors were rescued from these horrific founderings.

Come and see just how the Life Saving Station team did its job!  Live reenactments of Michigan's oldest shipwreck rescue techniques are demonstrated. Due to high water levels this summer, the Lyle gun is not being used in the presentation at this time; however, the technique of using it to launch a lifeline into the water will be explained.

Children may take a hands-on role in the rescue and the whole family will never forget this glimpse into maritime history.
