About
September 27, 2024 — September 28, 2025
On display is an exceptionally engaging array of works by contemporary Japanese ceramic artists, a sampler of the great diversity of styles, forms, glazes, and ages, some functional, some sculptural, some traditional and some avant-garde. The appeal of these works is unmistakable to everyone from first-time visitors to ceramic artists - and children too.
These artworks are all drawn from the vast, yet carefully curated collection of Carol and Jeffrey Horvitz who are perhaps the leading collectors of Japanese contemporary outside of Japan. The collection started in 2008 and they have assembled about 1500 pieces of the finest quality from the best artists which are used for loans, gifts, and exhibitions across more than 30 US museums. The Horvitz’s are widely known in the art world for their world-class collections of Japanese ceramics, French old masters, and Chinese lacquer.
