Learn how to cane that broken chair using the seven-step weave. Seat Weaver Anne Donn will guide you in handling the caning material, the seven-step caning method, and have some fun along the way. Seat weavers will bring their project chairs, learn how to size the cane properly, and get started weaving. Whether you have woven a chair seat before or this is your first, we will gather to learn, laugh, and gain strategies to understand the Seven-Step weave.

This weave does take some patience and moderate hand strength. A chair appropriate for the Seven Step weave will have holes in the chair frame at the inside edge of the seat panel. If the material is still in place on the seat, the holes may be covered with a piece of binder cane or pegged. Green Door Folk School will put you in touch with your instructor, Anne Donn, to send a picture of your chair 2 weeks before class to ensure that you have the correct chair for the weave, and that your chair is in good repair before you begin weaving. If you need a chair to weave, there will be an opportunity to make arrangements with your instructor.
