  • About

As the first plovers return to their nesting grounds on the lakeshore it is time to help protect them to ensure these tiny birds have a successful nesting season. The Great Lakes Piping Plover Conservation Team is recruiting volunteers to help protect the piping plovers in Sleeping Bear Dunes. This is an opportunity to work alongside National Park Service researchers who study this critically endangered species. In addition, you will serve as an ambassador to the birds, helping to keep Sleeping Bear beaches as a refuge for plovers to nest and raise their young. Consider becoming a BARK Ranger and join our training sessions.

    • An informational kick-off event for new volunteers: May 31st at 6:30pm, Empire Township Hall
