This year’s Downtown Traverse City Ladies’ Shopping Night is Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5-9 p.m., and if you’ve never been, consider this the year to start a new tradition with your girlfriends!
Over the course of four hours, 1,000 to 2,000 women will shop, snack and laugh their way through over 60 participating stores in Downtown Traverse City, according to Colleen Paveglio, marketing and communications director of the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority.
“The Ladies’ Nights started in 2006,” she said. “Participating stores offer various deals, specials, gift wrapping, snacks and refreshments. For example, Sunglass Shoppe is always a blast, and they usually have a DJ or someone dancing in the window. Sweet Pea is welcoming to the ladies with some kind of fun refreshment, and Golden Shoes typically has samples from The Cheese Lady, which is always a hit while shopping for shoes!”
For many, the night has become a tradition – and the perfect girls’ night out or weekend getaway. Watch for the famous blow-up Elf doll on Front Street (a selfie favorite), Santas (yes, a few guys are allowed!) goofing around in shops for photo ops, and glow bracelets and necklaces being handed out to help keep track of your crew.
And no matter the year, you can be sure to see this: groups of ladies linking arms, sharing a toast or taste, and, always, gathering to open their paper shopping bags to reveal their finds out on Front Street under the twinkling Christmas lights.
Bonus! We rounded up a sneak peek at this year’s specials (the full list will be out closer to Dec. 1):
They will be giving away a custom stemless wine glass, along with wine or cider from Taproot Cider House. (At this store, it seems, women come in to buy for their men – and leaving with something for themselves instead!)
Here you will find a night of “Ladies’ Guilty Pleasures” cocktails and chocolate. Their theme is “Indulgence is style,” and ladies can stop by during or after shopping and relax with a cocktail and some chocolate treats.
In the land of cherries you will find drink specials from Cherry Republic and Traverse City Whiskey Co. There will also be appetizers, gift-box giveaways and other specials. (This shop is perfect for gifts for relatives who love Traverse City cherries.)
20% off storewide, plus entertainment by Blake Elliott (famous for wielding a guitar full of tunes and a voice full of soul that matches her signature bright red lipstick!).
In-store specials for the ladies, plus vino! They will be serving their signature M22 Wine. (This shop is a perfect place for getting something for your teens – always popular – and relatives from out of town who have fallen in love with the M22 dream.)
Higher Art Gallery
Now through Ladies’ Night, the gallery has a special “gift size” original art show in place. The “small works/BIG GROUP show” offers a multitude of art pieces, in two different sizes, all originals. (Pick from a 6"x6" for $99 or a 4"x4" for $59.) They will also have 10% off gallery wide on Dec. 12.
The Corner Loft
Here you will find a ladies-night-only “Upscale Shopping Market” featuring multiple local merchants, with one-of-a-kind gifts, refreshments, music and prizes. Spend time up above the crowd in their gorgeous window-lined space overlooking Front Street.
This is just a peek at the list! There will be a full list of promotions announced a few weeks before the event here. Grab your girlfriends and plan a night (or weekend) together!
(P.S. If you’re making a weekend out of it, consider grabbing tickets to Elf the Musical, playing at Old Town Playhouse Nov. 15-Dec. 14. Tickets range from $15 to $28.)
