Tell us a little about what a “Sales Administrative Assistant” does at Traverse City Tourism.

  • Assist in room blocks for TBAYS Soccer Tournaments which happen in May and September each year.
  • Assist in room blocks for wedding parties coming to Traverse City for their destination wedding.  Brides also ask for assistance in finding their venues as well as reception locations and restaurants to host their rehearsal dinners.  Some are also looking for assistance and references for hair salons, flower shops, entertainment, transportation, sailing adventures and anything else fun for their guests to do while visiting Traverse City.
  • Collect collateral materials for groups coming to Traverse City for their conference or convention and deliver to the partnering property and then set up their information table with all of the brochures to assure their guests have a wide range of information to help them plan their free time.
  • Coordinate group outings such as transportation, wine tours or any other group activities that the group is interested in doing while here in Traverse City.
  • Baskets, baskets, baskets...Our sales department is asked frequently to prepare gift baskets for their groups for silent auctions or as a giveaways.

What did you do before Traverse City Tourism?
For 15 years I was the Inside Account Manager for ACRA Inc., handling all aspects of each automotive account as well as local accounts.  I also managed two employees in the warehouse so shipping and receiving was a large part of the job by making sure customer deliveries were made on time, and yes I had my hi-lo license.

What do you love the most about working for Traverse City Tourism?
Working with all the great people that bring their groups to Traverse City each year.  Making sure that each and every group has everything they need to assure a great meeting, event, conference or convention. I have had some of the most amazing conversations with people that are looking to come to Traverse City or have already secured their accommodations and looking for things to do.

What attractions, destinations, restaurants, etc. do you favor in Traverse City?
I love living on Lake Michigan on Peninsula Drive, my favorite place in the world.  The shades of blue defining the drop off are absolutely beautiful during certain parts of the day.  We also love sharing the beach with all the wildlife, including the fox, deer and bald eagles, just to name a few. I have some wonderful pictures, with Lake Michigan as your background how can you go wrong!  You can find me outside in the garden, on the beach or on the boat every weekend.  Friday nights are date night so we have dinner at one of our many favorite restaurants like SorellinaPeninsula GrillRed Ginger or even the Grand Traverse Yacht Club.

What’s your favorite downtown lunch spot and why?
My favorite lunch places downtown are Red Ginger for all of their small plates, Amical for their chicken pot pie and their outdoor patio and North Peak for their pretzel crusted chicken. They are all very delicious!!

How you would you describe Traverse City to a first time visitor?
Beautiful of course! I had this experience when I was a teenager.  My cousins came here from California for the first time.  We went fishing, climbed the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, enjoyed ice cream cones at the Pine Cone in Glen Arbor, walked down to Glen Lake every day, played in the woods, and just enjoyed what we did all the time.  At the time not one of us realized what an amazing place this is...boy things have changed! Now I am delighted in the everyday beauty and when my cousins return each year to experience the magic of Traverse City they never go home unsatisfied!

What is your perfect day in Traverse City?
Wake up to a sunny beautiful day! Hop on the boat to go downtown and walk down to Bubba’s for breakfast.  Meet with friends or family and head out to spend the day on Power Island or take a leisure day trip into Suttons Bay for lunch at Boone’s Prime Time.  After spending the day on the boat, head back to the house for a BBQ and cook out on the grill.  Then down to the beach for a bonfire to watch the sunset with a nice bottle of Brys Estate 2012 Cabernet Franc or 2013 Pinot Noir.  This is a seriously a PERFECT day for me!

If you could wish for a celebrity sighting on the streets of downtown Traverse City who would you want to see?
Matt Damon,  Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Clive Owen...just to name a few.

What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan?
I love all the seasons that Traverse City has to offer with spring bringing on the warmer days and melting the snow.  Seeing all those buds starting to pop out of the ground as well as the cherry and apply blossoms.  But I have to say that summer is my favorite since I can sit out on my patio and watch the sunset every night.  My amazing summer gardens always keep me busy and I look forward to seeing my dahlias, hibiscus, hollyhocks bloom each year.  And the fall brings out the beautiful fall colors of the leaves, which means harvest time and wine tours around the Peninsula.

Describe a memorable Traverse City moment/experience…
On my 40th birthday my husband decided to make an “amazing race experience." This was a blast as it sent me all over Traverse City for clues. It started at Brick Wheels where a new bike was waiting for me.  Then I rode my bike to Cuppa Joe where I had to hold up a sign that said “honk it’s my birthday” (VERY embarrassing) and I had to get 10 honks before I could move on to the next destination per my clue.  I proceeded to the Filling Station for a cold beer and pizza.  The day continued with fun surprises at every stop, each one representing the amazing attributes of Traverse City!
