It's that time of year again! Traverse City Beer Week returns November 10-17 with special events to celebrate local craft beer. From the casual beer drinker to the seasoned beer connoisseur, there's something happening for anyone who is thirsty.
In the meantime, take a look at some of our favorite spots to visit -- and sip pints -- while in TC.
Monkey Fist Brewing Company
A newcomer to Traverse City's prolific beer scene, Monkey Fist Brewing Company is located in the impressive State Street Marketplace. Peruse the local food purveyors, shops, arcade games, and ethnic eats as you strut your stuff to the back of the market where Monkey Fist resides.
When you reach your destination, grab a barstool and enjoy a Monkey Fist draft like their IPA or O'Porter House Coffee Porter. You can also explore their rotating lineup of guest brews. Hungry? Check out Wren the Butcher (artisanal sausage creations), Ziatun Café (Mediterranean delights from the folks at Olives & Wine), and F-Que (pizza, burgers, wings, and barbeque).
What better place to spend National Beer Lover's Day than in Traverse City? The Little Fleet
What do you get when a herd of food trucks converge on an indoor/outdoor bar with a communal seating area? You get The Little Fleet, a popular destination for workday lunches, group outings, and nights out under the Pure Michigan sky.
Order your favorite craft beer from the bar, then grab a bite at one of The Little Fleet's food trucks. Get your fingers saucy at Cordwood BBQ, make your taste buds smile at Happy's Taco Shop, or get cheesy at Pleasanton Pizza. For a current list of food trucks ready to serve you, check out The Little Fleet's website.
Beyond the delightful craft beer and flavorful food, there is a sense of community that permeates The Little Fleet. While we never advocate sharing a beer, sharing a story with a stranger is highly encouraged.
Rare Bird Brewpub
Nestled on the same street as the proverbial Patisserie Amie and cocktail destination The Parlor, Rare Bird Brewpub is a top-notch spot to flock together with friends and family. Whether you prefer to belly up to the bar, cozy up on a couch, or plant your butt in a booth, you can experience Rare Bird however you feel comfortable.
Options are always a good thing, and Rare Bird delivers a virtually endless selection of suds. You can sip one of their own brews or choose something from Michigan breweries and beyond. From Bell's to Blackrocks, Suttons Bay Ciders to Short's, there's something for just about everyone.
The variety doesn't end with libations. Rare Bird offers tacos, burgers, wings, and fried goodies like cheese curds.
North Peak Brewing Company
North Peak Brewing Company is a sentimental favorite of ours. It was the first stop on our first trip to Traverse City as a couple. Have a friend who hasn't hopped aboard the craft beer train yet? We've been using North Peak's Diabolical IPA to convert non-believers for years. That's why we call it the gateway IPA!
Not only can you enjoy an IPA, Porter, or Irish Stout, you can chow down on hand-crafted pizzas and our personal favorite, Hand-Rolled Mozzarella Sticks. The endearing rustic décor is conducive for a casual night out or dinner with the family.
Mug Club Memberships and many beers later, North Peak remains a recommended stop of ours. They recently celebrated their 20th beerversary, so be sure to stop by and raise a glass during Traverse City Beer Week.
Right Brain Brewery
The right hemisphere of our brain controls creativity. Aptly named, Right Brain Brewery pushes the boundaries of what craft beer can be. The brewery has always done their own thing, garnering respect from beer lovers far and wide. During Traverse City Beer Week, a pint at one of Michigan's quirkiest breweries is a must.
To say Right Brain's brewpub is enormous would be an understatement. The concrete floors, high ceilings, and industrial vibe give way to plenty of seating, space for gaming, and general brewery shenanigans. Your experience at Right Brain Brewery is what you make of it.
Now, let's get down to the beer.
For a bite… errr… sip of Traverse City, try Right Brain's Cherry Pie Whole. This amber ale is brewed with, you guessed it, whole cherry pies baked by the Traverse City Pie Company. Explore additional seasonal creations or stick with signature brews like the flagship CEO Stout, Smooth Operator cream ale, or Will Power pale ale.
Are you thirsty yet? We are!
