Wine lovers, you want to be a part of this! Trek to Traverse City, the home of almost 40 different wineries and countless creative hideaways for soaking in northern Michigan. This April 13 through 15, the town comes alive in a weekend-long wine event, featuring movies, seminars, tastings, a live and silent auction, music and dancing to the Sounds of Sinatra, all benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters. A full itinerary of sipping and doing good? I'll toast to that.
Friday, April 13 – City Opera House
The event begins on Friday at 6 pm with a showing of Bottle Shock followed by an 8:30 pm showing of Sideways two very popular ‘wine’ movies, complete with, what else? Wine and popcorn, of course!
Saturday, April 14 – City Opera House
10am - Biodynamic Farming from Napa to Traverse City
Winemaker and vineyard manager David Bos has moved from restaurants in Chicago to Chateau Grand Traverse to Napa and back to Traverse City, along the way learning about and now discussing biodynamic farming.
12 noon – Taste Like a Pro
Elizabeth Schweitzer, Master Sommelier, will walk attendees through the wine experience, from purchasing to opening, tasting and evaluating wine.
2 pm – Wine Tasting - Grape to Glass
Wine Industry Panel Discussion
Hosted by experts from all venues of the wine industry: Winemaker, Retail Sales, District Manager, Brand Manager and Master Sommelier. Find out how the wine gets from the vineyard to the glass. Discuss and ask questions with this panel of ‘who’s who’ in the wine world. They have the answers!
4 pm – New York Times Bestselling Author – Tilar Mazzeo
Dr. Tilar Mazzeo will discuss her book The Widow Clicquot, the story of a Champagne empire and the woman who ruled France. In 1772, Philippe Clicquot-Muiron established the original enterprise which eventually became the house of Veuve Clicquot. If Champagne is your preference, this event is for you!
A resident of Parsell Vineyard in British Columbia, Dr. Mazzeo is the author of numerous other nonfiction best sellers.
6:30 pm – Cocktail Reception and Live & Silent Auction
8 pm – Singer Mark Randisi and the "Sounds of Sinatra"
Clink! Sit back and relax with the classics song by Mark Randisi. Mark has appeared on stage with Don Rickles and Joan Rivers and and was also hired by Eminem for his wedding.
Sunday, April 15 – Boathouse Restaurant
1 pm – Winemaker Champagne Brunch
Hosted by Elizabeth Schweitzer, Master Sommelier, will feature a four-course brunch, with a course-by-course viticulture lecture by four of the area’s top sparkling winemakers: Sean O’Keefe, Larry Mawby, Lee Lutes and Spencer Stegenga. Attendees will also be able to bid on items including three wines: Veuve Clicquot, Dalmore Selene 1951, and Macallan 1928.
