Traverse City is a destination, there's no doubt about it! Whether you come for the attractions, the beaches, the booming culinary, wine and beer scene or the solitude of the woods, there’s something for everyone in this “Up North” paradise. That’s a big reason why Endurance Evolution got started back in 2009. We wanted to showcase the natural beauty the area offers while helping folks create memories, achieve personal goals, and test their limits at our athletic events. Take a look at three of these upcoming races and learn why they should be on your race schedule this summer or fall:
Glen Arbor Solstice Half Marathon & 5K - Saturday, June 18, 2016
Kick off your summer season with this scenic and incredible race! Shaded, tree-lined roads line most of the course and June's mildly warm temperatures greet runners on race day. The half marathon takes participants around Big Glen Lake, ascending Inspiration Point at around eight miles, where runners will get one of the most spectacular views in all Leelanau County! Sleeping Bear Bay, both Glen Lakes, Alligator Hill, the Dune Climb, and the Narrows are all within view from the aid station at the top of the hill -- the climb is tough, but you will be rewarded by the amazing views! The 5K is flat and fast, and is a very spectator-friendly event, sticking to roads closer to downtown Glen Arbor.
Traverse City Triathlon - Sunday, August 21, 2016
The flagship Endurance Evolution event, this race has a lot to offer for seasoned triathletes or newbies looking for an athletic challenge. Categories consist of a half distance, Olympic distance, and sprint distance triathlon, a duathlon, an open water swim, and two-or-three-person relays for all of the triathlon distances and the duathlon. Whew! There are really no excuses when it comes to finding a section to participate in. The courses alone are a reason to sign up! They take athletes past vineyards, over hills with breathtaking views, through tree-covered forest paths, and along both east and west Grand Traverse Bay. The swimming portion happens in the clear and usually calm waters of Bowers Harbor.
All the Endurance Evolution core principles are embodied in this triathlon! It offers the complete race experience, it's designed on an incredibly scenic course that is safe and meant for racing, and our combination of customer service and post-race education are always a positive part of the event. The vibe at the race is upbeat, and it’s a great spectator and family-friendly event. Watch the video about it here!
Sleeping Bear Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K - Saturday, October 1, 2016
No matter which distance you choose, you will quickly see why this run is becoming an Endurance Evolution classic. The majestic beauty of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is no hidden secret, and this race brings you right into the national park where you will travel past some of the most iconic scenes in the area, including the Dune Climb, the D.H. Day Barn and Glen Lake. Starting in 2015, the race course was changed slightly, and now the vast majority of the course runs on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail.
Which race will you be participating in? I'll be looking for you on one of the courses!
