Wine events, lodging packages, wine tasting specials and wine themed prizes are part of this year’s celebration of Michigan Wine Month through Traverse City Uncorked. The month-long promotion starts May first with members of the Traverse Wine Coast.

Traverse City Uncorked is powered by a digital mobile phone passport. Participants take a self-guided wine tour and can check into Traverse Wine Coast members in May to take advantage of specials. Those offers can include discounts or buy-one-get one deals on wine tastings. Those who check into five wineries can redeem their passport at Traverse City Tourism for a Traverse City Uncorked t-shirt, corkscrew or wine glass. Those staying at participating hotels can register to win a wine themed vacation in Traverse City.

“With cherry blossoms popping and warmer weather in the region, there may be no better time to sample the wineries around Traverse City,” said Trevor Tkach (Tah-koch), President of Traverse City Tourism. “Thanks to a combination of stunning scenery and award-winning wines. the wineries of the area have become a huge draw for visitors.”

In addition to the free digital passport, several special events will take place including:

  • Traverse Wine Coast Weekend at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa

  • Cooking classes at Chateau Chantal

  • Wine and Cheese with the Cheese Lady

  • Rose’ All May at the Leelanau Wine Trail

  • Sunday FUNday at Rove Estate

  • Mother’s Day Brunch at Bonobo

  • Michigan Girl Wine Walk at Timber Ridge

Traverse City boasts a wide range of cool-climate wines. The region’s two peninsulas, Leelanau and Old Mission, are recognized for a microclimate that is suited for growing a variety of wine grapes. The two wine regions produce about 55-percent of Michigan Wines.
