Located about 40 minutes north of Traverse City in the scenic Chain of Lakes region, Shanty Creek Resorts has 53 downhill slopes and six terrain parks (beginner to advanced) on two separate hills: Schuss Mountain and The Summit. Shanty Creek also offers a wide variety of guest rooms and condo accommodations spread among three distinct villages.
The Mt. Holiday Ski & Recreation Area, just east of the city limits, provides hours of fun for the entire family, with skiing and snowboarding on 16 runs (beginner to advanced) and a snow tubing run with an express return lift. Mt. Holiday offers group and individual lessons for every skill level from PSIA-certified instructors.
Traverse City's favorite hometown ski area is Hickory Hills, located in the west side Slabtown neighborhood. This city-operated ski area offers eight downhill runs served by five rope tows. Slopes are beginner to advanced, with a 240-foot vertical drop. Private and group lessons are available from certified staff.
