Skiing is part of Traverse City's life, and there are ski areas here to meet every taste and skill level.
Located about 40 minutes north of Traverse City, Shanty Creek Resorts has downhill skiing for all skill levels from beginner to advanced and offers skiing on two separate mountains - Schuss Mountain and the Summit. Shanty Creek also offers a wide variety of guest rooms and condo accommodations spread among three distinct villages.

Mt. Holiday Ski & Recreation Area is just north of Traverse City and provides hours of fun for the entire family! Offering skiing and snowboarding on 16 runs from beginner to advanced, Mt. Holiday also features snow tubing with express return lift. Lessons for everyone from beginner to advanced levels, individuals and groups are available from PSIA-certified instructors.
Everyone's favorite hometown ski area is Hickory Hills, located right in Traverse City's Slabtown neighborhood. This City-operated ski area offers 8 downhill runs served by 5 rope tows. Slopes are beginner to advanced, with a 240-foot vertical drop. Beginning with the 2012-13 season, private and group lessons are available from certified staff.
