Other Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor fun in Traverse City isn’t all “boats and beaches.” Our forests and uplands are the perfect backdrop for all sorts of great activities. Are you all about racing through the woods on an ATV? Hunting deer, turkey or small game? The Traverse City area is surrounded by miles and miles of state and national forest land, much of it set aside for hunters and four-wheelers!
Horseback riding is another growing pastime in the Traverse City area, with several well-developed trail systems and a number of riding stables. Disc golf aficionados, meanwhile, will find several challenging courses scattered throughout the region.
If you prefer quieter outdoor adventures – birding, for instance -- you’ll be delighted to know that the Traverse City area is one of the most productive bird-watching areas in the country because of so many of our best birding spots are on public land and easily accessible to visitors. And nobody needs to tell the geocaching community that this part of Michigan has been richly provided with hundreds of intriguing caches, just waiting to be discovered over and over again!
