Other Maritime Attractions
Explore a life-saving station museum, sail on a tall ship, charter a yacht, or visit one of the few maritime academies in the nation. There's plenty for a maritime history buff to experience on the Great Lakes!
Visit Leland's historic Fishtown district, home to two working fisheries and a thriving charter fishing industry, and dotted with art galleries and quaint gift shops. At Northwestern Michigan's College's Great Lakes Campus overlooking beautiful West Grand Traverse Bay, the Maritime Academy includes a working marina and several boats, including the 225-foot training vessel State of Michigan.
Or you may want to venture out to one of the area's many islands, like South Manitou, where you can climb to the lighthouse, explore the island's small village, or search for shipwrecks.
