Traverse City brewmasters are known for pushing the envelope when it comes to using unusual flavorings in their beers and ales. That may be one reason why Draft magazine named this small community one of America's three newest Emerging Beer Towns.
Emulating the region’s award-winning wine industry by their emphasis on local ingredients, craft brewers are suddenly multiplying across the Traverse City landscape. The area now boasts 13 microbreweries, brewpubs and craft brew taprooms with more opening this year!
The Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas, already renowned for their acres of fruit trees and vineyards, are now growing hops. These fast-growing vines provide one of the key flavorings in beers and ales and are being snapped up by eager brewers.
In Traverse City, we know that part of the fun of craft beer is how you experience it. Attractions such as the TC Cycle Pub (a large 14-person pedal powered beer taxi), the TC Ale Trail (a guide map with some of Traverse City’s most popular breweries) and plenty of local tour operators, set you up to not only experience the True North beer scene but to fully immerse yourself in it!
