Surrounded by navigable water, Traverse City is the ideal starting point for a day of boating or jet skiing. 

Nestled at the base of East and West Grand Traverse bays, the area is also home to nearly 150 inland lakes. Several marinas and boat rental businesses are located in and around Traverse City offering everything from cabin cruisers, ski boats, catamarans and pontoons to personal watercraft and sailing surfboards.

Maritime history buffs will be thrilled to see that the big schooners, sloops and frigates that played such an important role in the history of the Great Lakes are a colorful part of Traverse City’s landscape. Some are historical replicas of 18th and 19th century ships, available for dockside tours.
