Perhaps the most stunning features of the Traverse City area are its sandy shoreline, towering dunes and crystal clear lakes. No wonder Traverse CIty was ranked by AOL Travel News in the No. 8 spot of America's Top 10 Beach Towns -- the only destination ranked that is not on an ocean coastline!
Our fresh-water region has over 180 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, with sugar-sand beaches rimming some 149 deep, aqua-colored lakes that are 10 acres or larger in size.
If you are searching for solitude, choose a remote beach. (Even during the height of the summer season, it is possible to be alone on a Lake Michigan beach in Northern Michigan!) Or choose one of the many beaches right in Traverse City for companionship, volleyball and a friendly family atmosphere.
